Cocker Spaniel

DESCRIPTION:
The English Cocker Spaniel is an alert, compactly built, medium-sized dog with long ears, reaching at least to the nose when pulled forward.There are two types of English Cocker: field and show. The field types have shorter coats. Many colors are admissible, but on solid color dogs white is acceptable only on the chest. This lively dog is excellent with kids: gentle and playful, but does not tolerate teasing well. It is sociable with strangers, a moderate barker, and obeys respectfully the orders it is given. A superior companion dog. English Spaniels were divided into seven breeds; the Clumber, the Sussex, the Welsh Springer, the English Springer, the Field, the Irish Water Spaniel, and the Cocker. All these Spaniels derive from a spaniel-type dog imported into England centuries ago.

NATURE:

Cockers are renowned for their friendly, faithful, playful, quiet and affectionate natures. They are easily trained and make a good medium-sized family pet.Cocker Spaniels are intelligent and very loyal dogs. However, they do require an energetic owner, as they are very playful and active. This lively breed makes a great household pet, and should not be left outdoors for a long period of time. Their long hair prevents them from staying cool in hot weather.The Cocker Spaniel is recommended for a home with at least a small yard, but can do well in an apartment if they receive the proper exercise.Initially bred to be used as a gundog, this breed does exceptionally well in obedience if given consistent training with a gentle hand.They are great lovers of home and family, ordinarily trustworthy and adaptable, and they have great speed.They get along well with strangers and other animals.

COAT-COLOUR:

The coat color can come in black, black and tan, or brown and tan, and the coat on the body is medium in length with a protective undercoat. The dark, intelligent, round eyes lend the Cocker Spaniel a sweet yet alert expression, and the ears are distinctively long and as luxurious as the coat.

HEIGHT:

DOGS: 15-17 inches (38-43cm.). BITCHES: 14-16 inches (36-41 cm) .

WEIGHT:

DOGS: 28-34 pounds(13-16kg). BITCHES:26-32 pounds (12-15kg).

LIFE SPAN:

Around 13- 15 years.
